Frequently Asked Questions about SALT

What is the basis of SALT?

The Theoretical Foundation

In the 1940s Abraham Maslow developed a model of human motivation which became known as Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. He divided those needs into general categories, from the most basic to the most advanced - physiological, safety, belonging/love, esteem and self-actualization. He discovered that a higher need can only be expressed after all lower needs are fulfilled.

Maslow studied the highest state - the state of self-actualization - for many years. This he described as a state of total happiness and satisfaction. Interestingly, his research showed that in fact, most people do eventually reach this state. But sadly, in nearly all cases, they reach it by experiencing severe tragedy or only minutes before their death.

For the first time in history, great numbers of people have all of their basic needs met. We now have the luxury to go beyond basic needs and be curious about achieving the highest levels of personal satisfaction and happiness.

The problem is, achieving these highest states requires a much different approach from traditional learning methods..

From Theory to Realization

Over 18 years ago, Dr. MacKenzie was introduced to a learning technology that reliably took people to the higher states described by Maslow. His personal quest has been to refine, simplify and continue to develop the basic technology in order to make it available for as many people as possible.

Based on 15 years of on-going research, education and conducting seminars, Dr. MacKenzie developed S.A.L.T - the Self Actualization Learning Technology. This unique method is the proven foundation underlying all the seminars offered by MIC.

Who is it for?

Ordinary Success vs. Full Potential

You may be able to honestly and objectively say that you are 'successful' by societys common benchmarks of material possessions. And if we compare ourselves with generations past, there is hardly a person today that cannot say they are immensely successful!

And yet still, with all of the advancement in science and technology, we are left with seas of 'successful' people leading lives of quiet desperation - frustrated, stressed out, feeling an underlying unidentifiable sense of dissatisfaction. A life of joy, purpose and deep fulfillment seems ever elusive.

Upon reflection, many people find that fulfilling their material desires only provides a short term impact that does not handle their deeper craving for satisfaction and happiness.
Do any of these apply to you?
  • Do you feel you are currently successful and are now ready to take your life to the next level? But you don't exactly know what's "next" is or how to get there?
  • Do you have a vague feeling that something you can't identify is "missing" or "not quite working" in your life?
  • Are your material achievements not bringing you the sense of fulfillment you thought they would?
  • Do you have a sense that there is something "more" you were really meant to be? That you're not yet really living at 100% of your capacity?
  • Do you feel you just don't have enough pure enjoyment in your life? You don't get to do all the fun things you really love to do to?
If so, these are actually quite positive signs! You've got the capacity to look honestly at your life and admit that you want more. Plus, such feelings are often an indication that you've simply outgrown where you are in life and it's time to take the next step.

A Beneficial Mindset...

In all the years I've been conducting seminars, I've noticed that people with a particular set of attitudes commonly get the best results. Those with...
  • an inquiring intelligent mind
  • a high degree of awareness, honesty and curiosity
  • a healthy dose of skepticism
  • a willingness for self-examination
...and a deep desire to lead truly magnificent life!

How does it work?

Awareness is the first step towards change

The very first step towards change is awareness. Also required is honesty - a ruthless but compassionate honesty - with others and above all, with yourself. Having these attitudes of open-minded questioning and non-judgmental observation are keys to transforming your life...

Why is curiosity so important?

Curiosity is one of the most reliable (and fun) ways to bring yourself into present time consciousness. This takes you into the moment... into the elusive 'now'. When in the moment, you are no longer conscious of your memories of the past or expectations for the future.

Curiosity also has the effect of focusing your mind on something outside of yourself, rather than on your own inner self. Plus, judgment is suspended and you no longer 'know' the answer. Instead, you are in a quiet but intensely alert and awake state of consciousness. You are able to just look and see what 'is'.

In fact, one of my favorite sayings is...
When the answer is found, truth is lost.

This state of not-knowing temporarily stops the inner mental dialogue - that insidious voice chattering in the back of your mind. You know... the one that is always critical, always judging, worried about the future, or upset about the past. The running commentary about what should/shouldn't be, what you like/don't like, wondering about how you are doing, and "what about me?"

Taking a break from 'self-consciousness' is quite refreshing and liberating, putting you into a state where true learning can take place. The grip of culturally conditioned belief systems that may no longer be serving you is loosened, allowing you to now be 'at choice'.

The Result...
  • your biological system learns from honest feedback and automatically begins to self-adjust
  • you naturally become more authentic without any sense of having to 'do' anything
  • you learn how to respond more to the emotional impact of life, rather than reacting emotionally
  • the things that are not you simply fall away when they are no longer of any use
  • you become more mature and yet biologically younger at the same time
  • your innate genius can more easily emerge
  • your learning and results deepen and strengthen over time
In short, you become more of who you really are, making you 'magnetic' to the life you came here to live!
