(A letter from Dr. Paul Seitz on his experience of meeting
Dr. MacKenzie, waiting three years, and then finally deciding
to take the Self Actualization seminar.)
I am writing to tell you about an amazing learning technology.
It has been developed by Dr. Mick MacKenzie and his wife, Nicole
MacKenzie, author of the book, Parenting Rule #1: Mom Has Fun!.
The technology is called Self Actualization Learning Technology
(S.A.L.T.). The term Self Actualization was used by psychologist,
Abraham Maslow, to describe the state of awakening which can
occur when certain conditions are met. As a way to acquaint
you with this work, I have written a brief story about my own
experience.
In 1998, I opened a Network practice in Houston, Texas, just
after graduating from Chiropractic College. Sometime during
my first year in practice, I had a meeting with a remarkable
man, it was one of those meetings that had a magical quality
about it. The fellow's name was Dr. Mick MacKenzie, also a chiropractor.
I had met Mick's sister at some gathering in Houston, and, as
we talked, she began to tell me about her brother, and said
that we should meet each other. She said this so matter-of-factly,
that I agreed with her, and decided to make the half-hour drive
to his house later in the week.
Mick and I spent several hours, in his beautiful back yard,
chatting about Chiropractic, Network, family, life, dreams,
you name it. As I look back on that meeting, in my mind's eye,
there was something of a golden color in the air around us all
that afternoon. In fact, my meeting with Mick that day reminded
me of times I used to spend with my grandmother when I was a
child. She and I would sit together sometimes she would tell
me stories, sometimes we would just sit silent, and I would
hold her wrinkled hand and I would know that I was totally loved
and accepted without judgment. I recall feeling this same way
that day with Mick. I was thoroughly enjoying myself, just being
there.
At one point, Mick asked me a simple, direct question,
Paul, "What do you want?"
At that moment, there was only that moment, and the only thought
in my head was, this is so great ! So I simply answered, with
a big grin on my face, "I'd like more of this!" Meaning
sitting in that amazing aura of acceptance and camaraderie.
Mick replied, "This is fun, eh?" Mick had spent some of his
earlier years in Canada, and had the expressions to prove it.
He then told me about something he called Healing Through Humor,
which would later become known as Self Actualization the Experience,
and that he would be presenting a weekend class coming up, and
invited me to it. Right about then, my mind kicked in, and slammed
on the brakes, for probably the first time in a couple of hours.
You can't take that seminar it said, it will take a whole weekend,
and besides, it's expensive, and your practice is new, and where's
the money gonna come from?, blah, blah, blah.
Can you guess what happened? Of course you can!!! I listened
to my mind, and it would be three years before I would see Mick
again. But you know, sometimes I believe we really do have angels
looking out for us. Early in the summer of 2002, I was sitting
in my office one day and in walks an English fellow, who said
he had been given my name by another Network Chiropractor. Mr.
English said he would be in town a while, had started Network
care in England, and would like to continue it while in Houston.
"What brings you over here?" I asked. "Oh,
he said, I'm doing a training with Dr. Mick MacKenzie."
"I know Mick MacKenzie!" I exclaimed, surprising myself
with my burst of recall and excitement. Do you remember in the
movie, The Matrix, when Neo takes the red pill, and wakes up
in the Matrix?! That's how I felt at that moment. It was if
a switch had been flipped. Up until that moment, my mind had
effectively capped off my brief experience with Mick. But now,
I suddenly knew that I would be seeing Mick again.
Later that summer, I did my first weekend training with Mick.
A month later, my wife, Kelli, a professional psychotherapist
did a weekend training with him, saying that the changes she
noticed in me were so profound that she had to experience it
for herself. In fact, she has been so impressed, that she is
now studying with Mick to do the trainings herself. But, enough
about her.
In the early part of 2003, Kelli had gone off to Switzerland
to do a 30 day training with Mick (that's right, a whole month!).
During her absence, each day I would put in my hours at the
office, come home, work on our home remodeling projects, then
about midnight each night, I would pull out my guitar, and play.
Big deal, you say. But I had not played my guitar since starting
Chiropractic School, some 5-6 years earlier. Now, each night,
I found myself playing, singing, and writing songs again, it
was as if a switch had been flipped, and a part of myself I
had lost was found again. In fact, I am now in the process of
producing my first CD of my original music.
Recently, two of my practice members did a weekend with Mick.
During the weekend, before and after photos are taken, and one
of my practice members has given her permission for me to share
these photos with others. If you want to see the concrete and
dramatic effects this work can have, send me an email, and I'll
send you copies of these photos, and you can judge for yourself.
I write this epic saga to introduce you to this work, and
recommend that you attend a class with Dr. MacKenzie as soon
as possible. Consider this letter your first backyard meeting
with Mick, then listen to, but don't believe your mind's attempts
to keep you sleeping in "the Matrix". Mick travels
around the world, offering classes. If you will e-mail me, I
will see that you get a schedule of upcoming classes.
You may also be interested to know that Dr's Donnie and Jackie
Epstein (of Network fame) wrote a great endorsement for the
cover of Nicole MacKenzie's book, Parenting Rule #1: Mom Has
Fun!. This is a great book for parents, as it teaches the application
of the principles of S.A.L.T. to raising kids in a way that
maintains their genius, while fostering emotional maturity.
The MacKenzie's six kids are amazing, and if you want the families
in your practice to have access to one of the best parenting
resources available, you owe it to them to get this book for
your practice.
S.A.L.T. (Self Actualization Learning Technologies) has assisted
me, my family, and my practice members to create positive change
in our lives at a phenomenal rate. And, in my experience, its
principles couple very nicely with NSA. I warmly invite you
to experience this work, unless you want to keep sleeping, that
is. It will create a wake up call for you. It will wake you
up to your own magnificence, and the magnificence of the world
around you. You may even get to re-acquaint yourself with your
reason for being on the planet at this time.
Sincerely,
Paul Seitz, DC

A second letter from Paul, one and a half years later,
in February 2004.
WOW!!! The gig last Saturday night was tremendous. We played
to a SRO crowd at the Yale Street Coffee House - that's right,
at least 33 people in attendance with only 30 available chairs.
We made about $100 in $3 cover charges, and sold $50 worth of
autographs with CD's attached. I had SO much FUN. I played 2,
50-minute sets of about 12 songs each. I fell into this groove
of talking to the crowd in between songs, and man, was I ever
ON (he says not at all modestly). I could not stop smiling.
And half the songs I sang were sad folk songs - you know, the
kind an Irishman would sing about love lost, missing Ireland,
etc.
I sang Raffy's Song, just because it was February 7th. I had
some apprehension about singing that one. So I told the crowd
about Raff, started into the song, and Raff was right there
with me again. He even had me tell a joke half way through the
song. Can you believe the nerve of that guy? I made it all the
way to the last line, and damn if I didn't get choked up on
the last word. I was so surprised at how it turned out, that
I'm considering making it a regular part of the set. You could
just feel the electricity in the room all evening. It was magical.
Kelli sang harmony on about half the songs, and even did 3 solos
- with her best on "Landslide", the old Fleetwood
Mac/Stevie Nicks tune. And then my Mom and Dad went and stole
the show, and gave it back to me by requesting I do Waltz Across
Texas, then they got up and danced to it, and the crowd went
wild! Boy did we have some fun that night - have I said that
already?
Hi there, Kelli here. At Paul's request I am writing a few
words. I have become a dutiful wife since his incredible performance.
I knew that he was a fabulous guitar player and an awesome singer/songwriter,
but it was beyond magical to watch him respond to the crowd.
It was cool to be both a performer with him for some of the
time and an observer for the other portion. People were moved
from laughter to tears and back to laughter again with the different
sets. Other people would sing long so it was like we had groupies
too. Absolutely fantastic!
We will be performing to a totally different crowd at the end
of the month and that will be fun, and this one, for us virgins,
was as special as any "first time" could be. The crowd
gave Paul all of their attention and it was amazing to watch
the hush as we would move into the next song. Special time with
a special man, and we want so many more. We are already booked
back at Yale Street Coffee House on the 2nd Saturday in April,
so you guys will be able to make that one as you'll be back
and you are invited. We may even work all the kids into one
of the sets - those now famous MacKenzie kids whose voices are
now heard in 10 countries and growing!!
